Janine Hall

CCP asks Janine Hall the deep questions

1. What gets you out of bed every day?

It depends on the day – commitments, exercise, sunshine, family, love…

2. Who is the artist that has inspired you the most?

So many, but will call out a local artist – Martine Emdur – great artist, lovely woman, and making it locally and internationally.

3. What medium are you working with?

Mostly acrylics, but dabble in oil painting sometimes. They are so different.

4. When you are creating art do you listen to music, and if so, what genre and/or band? And if you don’t, are there other essential items that you use?

I listen to whatever is going on around me. Sometimes music, sometimes silence. I get so absorbed in my work that I hardly notice anything else.

5.  Do you make prints from your original artworks? How important is that print to you and your work?

Yes I do, but I have a rule that I won’t make a print until I sell the original artwork. And then I limit the number of prints to small editions. The print quality is extremely important, and I’m very particular about the quality. That’s why I love working with CCP. The team are very patient with me J

6. Acrylic, watercolour, oil, gouache, ink.

What are your thoughts and ideas about these 5 different art mediums?

What are your thoughts and ideas about these 5 different art mediums.

All great – it’s what is done with them that matters.

7. Have you exhibited your work, and other than the print, how important was the framing process to you?

Yes, I’ve had a solo exhibition and some group exhibitions. When I frame an artwork or print, it needs to enhance the work, so choices and quality are very important.

8. What defines a great artwork?

The eye of the beholder

9. What is your favourite genre of art? Why? and also your favourite piece of art?

Not sure I have a favorite, but love impressionist, figurative and landscape art.

One of my favourite pieces of art is one hanging at home painted using elephant-dung as the ink. And no – it doesn’t smell J

10.What is the best and most enduring advice about art you have received? Tell us by whom if you can or want to?

It’s just paint and canvas – the value is only determined by those who gaze upon it. (Me)

11. When you are not making art, what else do you do?

Ocean swimming, mountain biking, cooking. I also work in a full-time job.
