Printing Papers

CCP asks CCP the deep questions about their printing papers and printing craft

1. What gets you out of bed every day?

Knowing we get to see the fabulous work of our CCP customers and making prints to make them smile.

2. Who is the artist / photographer that has inspired you the most?

All of our customers inspire us. The fact we get to see the work of multiple artists is a joy and a privilege we never underestimate. Being asked to participate in the process to create Final art is incredible. We learn from each and every person who walks through the doors.

3. What is your favourite paper are you using?

Every paper has its joys and benefits. The favourite is the perfect paper for the customer’s work whatever that is.. we show customers the best paper to suit them.

4. When you are printing do you play music? What other essential items do you have with you for a successful session?

Yes we often have music playing in the shop/lab. This not only keeps the CCP team engaged and happy it can help the customer feel at ease, even start conversations.

5. How important is the print?

The print is our business, but we feel the print is a window to the emotion of the artist. The print is the final choice, aside from the frame, in what an artist or photographer wants to say about their work. Some photographers will choose a textured paper to give their images a ‘painterly’ feel, and vice versa when an artist creates an edition print of their work. The print is the archival memory everyone sees.

6. B/W - Colour - Analogue - Digital.

Put these words in your order of preference and tell us why.

We change the order of these each day depending on what our customers bring to us. We’re happy to print all of these. MASTER PRINTER Iain knows exactly which paper will match an image no matter whether its b/w, colour, shot on film or made by digital. There is quality to suit each. So yeah, ring in all of them and we can show you what we can do.

7. How important is the framing process to you?

Framing is the other half of what we do. If you want to really make your work look fabulous and create the final word on how you want it to be seen them choosing the right frame is really important. Our team can talk you through the choices whether that be a type of wood, the colour of the wood and if it needs matte borders. Even give us a challenge if you have something 3D, we can work out the best way to frame anything so you can call it art!

8. What defines a great piece of art?

A great idea, imagination, skill, good composition, and courage to make the final choice exactly as you envisaged it.

9. Do you see exhibitions? What are some of your favourite ones you’ve seen?

We MAKE a lot of exhibitions as in we print and frame for artists and photographers to get their shows ready for public viewing.  Sometimes this means we miss seeing other shows but our Social Media expert is always on the ball and knows what is on. In this day and age you can see samples of shows online but it is ALWAYS best to see art in person. We see what we can when we can especially the shows by our customers.

CCP doesn’t play favourites but each team member may have preferences in styles. It is always good to see something new and unheard of though

10. What is the best printing advice you have been given? Tell us by who if you can or want to?

Listen!!

Listen to your clients hopes, dreams and creativity and budgets. We listen to the reasons why artists and photographers make what they make which helps us give good suggestions and choices.

11. When you are not making prints, what are you doing?

Thinking about prints, colour correcting the tv screen and images seen everywhere, learning about new products to integrate to the CCP stock.

Listening to music. Playing music.

Walking the dogs

Drawing

Painting

Eating

Drinking - various healthy choices of course along with some cheeky reds.
