CCP asks CCPhoto Comp the deep questions
1.What gets you out of bed every day?
Coffee - pets - and knowing we will see new work in the submissions folder for our photo competitions
2. Who is the photographer/artist that has inspired you the most?
Not just one, but every single photographer who has entered our photography competitions since the start of the CCPhotocomp series back in 2022.
3. What is one of the best parts of the photo competition?
Not only is it a joy to be the ones to hear and see first reactions of the winners when we tell them they have won but when they find out WHAT they have won it lights up their face. Amongst their prizes is over $1000, their image custom printed and framed and others goodies. CCP also donates to the charity of their choice. We have donated to 19 different charities since we began the photo comps.
4. When you are on a shoot do you play music? What other essential items do you have with you for a successful session?
We play music in the shop/lab most of the time when we are printing and framing. It helps build a great atmosphere for all the staff and customers. All staff get a chance to play their fave music too.
Our skilled team are our essential items - we’re here to help all customers receive what they want and we have many choices and expert ideas to talk through with them.
5. In the digital world how important is the print?
We consider the print to be one of the most important things to every person. Firstly we are trusted by each artist and photographer to reproduce their work, and secondly, it’s a known fact that a photo will be one of the first items to be saved if faced by imminent danger of flood and fires etc. Prints evoke memories so saving these seems to be high a priority.
Plus having a tangible item that can hang on a wall is far more satisfying than trying to find a digital file in a computer.
6. B/W - Colour - Analogue - Digital.
Put these words in your order of preference and tell us why.
1. Digital
2. Colour
3. B/W
4. Analogue
1 - Digital because we need these to print from no matter what our customers shoot on
2 & 3 - No faves as we are happy to print and frame any style for our customers, though some staff members say they love B/W more than colour.. guess which ones?
4 - Analogue - because we stock film for those who love their images old school
7. Have you exhibited your work, and other than the print, how important was the framing process to you?
We exhibit the image of every competition winner in our shop/lab window here at CCP. The winner stays in our window until the next winner is announced. The print and the frame are extremely important to us as they are our super skill, though without a great image the ‘comp team’ is not complete.
8. What defines a great image?
All judges have to love the image to decide the winner of our competition.
Every image is given an individual score by each judge, then these are added up to find the winner. Usually there are 4 people sitting on the panel for each competition round.
9. What is your favourite photo? Why?
We love all images that are submitted to the photo comps. Of course the winners are particular favourites as they gave us all that WOW factor. Check each one out in the FEATURED PHOTOGRPAHER section on our website.
10. What is the best photography advice you have been given? Tell us by who if you can or want to?
In regard to the photo competitions there are 3 things:
~ Respond to the theme clearly
~ Read the competition terms & conditions because putting a foot wrong can easily deem your image unsuitable to judge. With so many entries this is the best way the judging panel can find the winner too. So check how to prepare your file as well as write the title in the file name. It makes such a difference for the admin of the competition.
~ Don’t be shy to enter. Just by doing this you can learn so much plus have your work shared amongst your peers and you also feel part of the photography community. Winning is a bonus really, entering is the name of the game.
PLUS - If you are chosen as a Finalist or the Winner it goes on your CV.
11. When you are not taking photos, what are you doing?
Dreaming of new competition themes and prizes, plus ways to help our photography community
