MONTHLY PHOTO COMPETITION
Thanks to everyone who entered the July Monthly Photo Competition. You warmed our souls with your interpretations of WINTER.
CONGRATULATIONS to the Open winner:
Andrew Stephen - ‘White Out’
The use of high contrast on a stark landscape gave us chills, in the right kind of way. You could be fooled into thinking this was the snow but, no, it’s the cold water this hooded adventurer is walking in to.
Andrew says - “Bondi lifer Darren on dawn patrol in a white out. I'd come back to Australia for a few weeks and bumped into him on a freezing arctic morning.”

There was no STUDENT winner this month.
If you have any family or friends with kids - under the age of 18 - who are keen about photography, we would appreciate it if you let them know about the competition.
A note re Submissions
We have to be honest, submissions this month included many images that did not follow the criteria. Either by correctly naming the file, or providing the right file size.
This may seem a small thing, but it helps the entire process for us when we sort images. Please read the full terms and conditions before uploading your fabulous photographs.
The next monthly CCPhotocomp is NOW OPEN
Check out our website for all entry details. Please read all the terms and conditions: https://www.charingcrossphoto.com.au/
Theme and Brief : STILL LIFE

Artwork by Stephen Lowe
pic by W. McDougall
A STILL LIFE image can say so much whilst seem to be looking like so little. With no people in a still life image emotion, story and comment comes from your perspective, lighting and arrangement of items. It can also be a found set up out there in the world, as in the example of the ladder image here…
The classic STILL LIFE set up, as theatrical, painterly and beautiful as it is, the boundaries have certainly expanded. Food, wine and flowers don’t have to be the only objects used though we certainly hope to see some of these images. Objects seen in general life is considered FOUND STILL LIFE.
How will you find your boundary and create a beautiful STILL LIFE?
This theme is an opportunity to show your skills with lighting or your skill to observe and capture natural light. Either way, lighting is a key aspect to enhance the objects in your still life pictures.
This is a great challenge and we look forward to seeing your submissions.
Photographs can be newly taken or from your archives.
Submissions can be uploaded from 1st August
Deadline is 21st August [11:59pm]
Visit our website to enter. https://www.charingcrossphoto.com.au/photo-competition
The winning images will be shown on the CCP website and in our social media.
Good luck!

FEATURED PHOTOGRAPHER
Dianne Brooks
Dianne has been a regular and trusted customer at CCP for quite some time now. You may have even bought postcards of her wonderful ocean and seaside images she takes most mornings when she is in town [we have some postcards currently available] Or perhaps you follow Di on her Instagram page and see her music photos taken at Festivals all over the country, in particular Bluesfest at Byron Bay and WOMADELAIDE. For her selection in the Feature Photographer section, Di has chosen to show a current project that is closest to her heart, ‘Guludu’.
‘Guludu’ means ‘peaceful dove’ in Yidinji, which is one of the languages spoken in and around Yarrabah in Queensland. The aim of the project is to raise funds to build an Eco Cultural Centre and will also be home to Julie Smith, teacher and custodian of culture whom she met 5 years ago. The development of affordable housing and a cultural centre will ensure these people can remain on their land with a strong connection to their language and culture.
The images seen here are a small selection from the vast story Di is building to help highlight the people and place of Guludu. Each image tells one slice of story and the collection gives you a great insight to the bigger picture and why Di feels connected to the people and place.
If you are interested to help there is a GoFund me page - www.gofundme.com/Guludu
